Work Accidents

When you have an accident at work that causes an injury, it can be tempting to ignore it. You may think that you are being rather silly by making a fuss about it, you may even feel a bit embarrassed. However, it is important to report it, using the right procedure, for a number of reasons.

You will need to write it in the accident book and possibly even report it to a health and safety officer. It is important to do this. If you think about what happened to you, there is a risk that it could happen to someone else as well. If you report the accident, then the company might do something to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else. You would not want to be responsible for an injury and it could be worse than the one that you had. Therefore it is worth reporting it so that you can protect others.

If you decide later that you want to make an injury claim, then you will need evidence that the accident took place. Without reporting it, there will be no record of it happening and so the other party will be able to claim that the accident never happened in the workplace. This will mean that you will have a much lower chance of winning the case.

Therefore there are reasons for yourself and others, why you should make sure that you report a work accident properly. Do not feel silly or embarrassed but think about the good that you might be doing for others by coming forward with details of what happened. It may mean a change in the health and safety policy and protect other people from suffering in the same way that you have. They may be injured even more than badly than you otherwise.
